Who we are and what this covers
This Privacy Policy explains how Wethook Guide Service (“Wethook,” “we,” “us” or “our”), a fishing guide and lake tour service run by Captain Carl Bostick on Lake Conroe, Texas, collects, uses and protects information about people who visit wethook.com (the “Site”), book a trip, call us, or ride with us.
By using the Site or booking a trip, you agree to this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.
Information we collect
Information you give us
- Booking details. When you book through our online scheduler, you provide things like your name, phone number, email address, trip type, date, party size and any notes you choose to add.
- Payment details. Deposits and payments are handled by the booking system and its payment processor. We do not see or store your full card number on this Site.
- Contact form. If you send us a message through the Contact page, you provide your name, phone number, email address (optional), the trip you’re interested in, preferred date, party size and your message. We use it only to reply and plan your trip.
- Phone calls and texts. If you call or text us, we receive your phone number and whatever you tell us, such as trip questions or special requests.
- Trip information. Information you share to help us plan your trip safely, such as the ages of children, swimming ability, mobility needs or medical conditions you choose to tell the captain about.
Information collected automatically
- Device and usage data. Like most websites, our hosting provider and the services we use may automatically receive your IP address, browser type, device type, pages viewed, referring page and the date and time of your visit.
- Click events. The Site records simple, anonymous actions such as clicking “Book a Trip,” tapping a phone number or opening our map, so we can understand which parts of the Site help people book. If we turn on an analytics tool, this data may be sent to that tool (see Cookies and analytics below).
We do not ask for, and ask that you do not send us, sensitive information such as Social Security numbers, financial account numbers or government ID numbers.
How we use information
- To schedule, confirm, change and run your trip, and to contact you about it (for example, weather calls, meeting time or rescheduling).
- To collect deposits and balances and handle refunds.
- To keep guests safe on the water.
- To answer your questions and provide customer service.
- To run, secure, fix and improve the Site.
- To understand, in general terms, how people find and use the Site.
- To comply with the law, enforce our Terms of Service and protect our rights and the safety of others.
We do not send marketing emails or texts unless you ask us to. If you ever receive a message from us you don’t want, tell us and we’ll stop.
How information is shared
We only share information when it’s needed to run our business or required by law:
- Service providers who help us operate, such as our online booking and payment provider, website host and (if enabled) analytics provider. They may only use your information to provide services to us or as described in their own privacy policies.
- Legal and safety reasons. If required by law, court order or government request, or to protect the safety of our guests, the public or us, including sharing with emergency responders or the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department when needed.
- Business transfer. If the business is sold or transferred, customer information may be transferred to the new owner, who must honor this policy for information collected under it.
- With your permission for any other purpose.
Third-party services
Some features of the Site are provided by other companies. When you use them, those companies collect information under their own privacy policies:
- Online booking and payments: Acuity Scheduling, a Squarespace company (Squarespace Privacy Policy). Booking buttons on the Site take you to our booking page at wethook.as.me, which is run by Acuity. Payments made there are processed by the payment processor connected to that booking page.
- Contact form delivery: messages sent through our Contact page, along with the page you sent it from and how you found the Site (for example, a Google search or an ad), are delivered to our lead management system, run by our website provider, Web Dev Group, so we can reply to you.
- Maps: Google Maps embeds and links (Google Privacy Policy).
- Fonts: Google Fonts, which may receive your IP address when it delivers fonts to your browser.
- Social media: links to our Facebook, YouTube and TikTok pages. Those sites have their own privacy policies.
- Google Business Profile and reviews: if you leave a review on Google, it is public and governed by Google’s policies.
We do not sell your information
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for targeted advertising. We do not process personal information to make decisions about you that have legal or similarly significant effects.
Cookies and analytics
Our own Site does not need cookies to work. Some third-party tools, such as an embedded Google Map, the booking page and analytics (if enabled), may set cookies or similar technologies. Our Cookie Policy explains what they are and how to control them.
Photos taken on trips
Captain Carl often takes photos of guests and their catch. We may share these on the Site, in our gallery or on our social media pages. If you don’t want your photo (or your child’s photo) taken or shared, just tell the captain before or during your trip. If a photo of you is already posted and you want it removed, contact us and we’ll take it down from the channels we control.
How long we keep information
We keep booking and payment records for as long as needed to provide our services and to meet tax, accounting and legal requirements, generally up to seven (7) years. We keep other information only as long as it’s useful for the purpose it was collected, then delete or de-identify it.
How we protect information
We use reasonable administrative, technical and physical safeguards, and we rely on reputable providers for booking, payments and hosting. The Site is served over a secure (HTTPS) connection. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, so we can’t guarantee absolute security. If we learn of a breach that affects your personal information, we will notify you as required by Texas law.
Children’s privacy
Kids are welcome on our trips with a parent or guardian, but the Site is meant for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information online from children under 13. Bookings should be made by an adult. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Your privacy choices and rights
You can ask us to:
- tell you what personal information we have about you and give you a copy;
- correct information that is wrong;
- delete your information (unless we need to keep it for legal, tax or safety reasons); or
- stop contacting you.
To make a request, call us or use our Contact page. We may need to confirm your identity before we act on a request. We will respond within 45 days, or tell you if we need more time as allowed by law. We will not treat you differently for exercising your rights. If we deny your request, you may ask us to reconsider by contacting us again.
Texas residents
We are a Texas business. Where Texas privacy laws apply to us, including the Texas Data Privacy and Security Act, Texas residents have the rights described above. We do not sell sensitive personal data. If you are not satisfied with our response to a request, you may contact the Texas Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division.
Visitors outside Texas
The Site is run from the United States and is intended for people booking trips on Lake Conroe, Texas. If you visit from another state or country, your information will be handled in the United States under this policy. Where the privacy laws of your state give you additional rights, we will honor them as required.
Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
Because we don’t sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising, there is nothing to opt out of. If we add tools in the future that would make these signals relevant, we will honor Global Privacy Control signals where required by law.
Links to other websites
The Site links to other websites, including our booking page, Google, Facebook, YouTube and TikTok. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those websites. Please read their policies.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we’ll change the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. If the changes are significant, we’ll post a notice on the Site. Using the Site after an update means you accept the updated policy.
